Predicting the end of the world is an obsession. In 1947, after the US atomic bombings in Japan, the Atomic Scientists at the University of Chicago have developed the clock of the end of the world. This conceptual clock on which "midnight" represents "catastrophic destruction" (the end of the world), also called the Apocalypse clock or Doomsday Clock, is currently set at seven minutes to midnight (11:55 p.m.), since 2007.
The end of the world has been predicted many times in the history of mankind. Recall, for example 1 January 2000, announced for a huge computer bug and the end of times. However, computers are still active and we are not dead. There would then have had a time difference between Earth time and the cosmic clock, which saved us from disaster.
A new deadline for the end of the world is set at the winter solstice 2012, Friday, December 21, 2012. This date marks the end of the long cycle of the Mayan calendar. It is the Mexican-American José Argüelles (Ph.D., a professor at Princeton University) that issued the first such case in his book ' The Mayan Factor :Path Beyond Technology ' (1987), Inner Traditions / Bear & Company ISBN 0939680386. The Argüelles’s theory, linked to the Mayan civilization and popularized by New Age cults, is the basis of what is called the harmonic convergence or the galactic alignment.
This alignment of planets is expected to have catastrophic consequences for the Earth. The cataclysm will also take the form of drift of the crust caused by the warming of the Earth's core, natural disasters, earthquakes, ice melt submerging continents, emission of deadly gases, changes in the field Earth's magnetic, poles North-South shift. The last reversal of poles took place there nearly 780 000 years.
